Maria Carnemolla-Mania
(She/hers) Co-Managing & Media Director
Maria has been on staff since 2013. She obtained her MS in Management from The College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey. She has over 20 years of leadership experience working in higher education and nonprofit organizations. Her passion and enthusiasm for Leftism began at a young age and continues to this day. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Left Forum and is also active in her community and children’s schools. Maria is dedicated to working on moving to a more democratic economic system, one that puts people before profits.

 

Liz Phillips 
(She/hers) Co-Managing & Communications Director
Liz has been on staff since March, 2018. For the 2 years prior, she was a volunteer co-leader of a d@w Study Group in Los Angeles where she focused on content production and outreach. She obtained her BFA in Technical Theatre and Stage Management from the College of Santa Fe and in her subsequent 10 years of experience in entertainment (theater, dance, concerts, film, and advertising) she held mostly management / project leadership or creative / story-telling positions. She is thrilled to now put these skills to work advocating for the world she would like to see. She is also a musician, masters swimmer, and new mother. 

 

Julieta Biegner
(She/hers) Outreach Coordinator
Julieta has been on staff since May, 2020. She is responsible for coordinating media appearances and interviews. Prior to joining the team, she attended graduate school at the University for Peace in Costa Rica, and has worked with climate justice and youth development organizations. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, playing soccer and writing short stories.

 

Eric Halvarson
(He/his) Communications Coordinator
Eric has been on staff since May, 2021. He has worked with a number of organizations dedicated to sustainability and justice, including writing news pieces for the Appalachian Voice and working for the College and University Recycling Coalition as Program Coordinator. Originally from Rhode Island, Eric graduated from Appalachian State University after studying Sustainable Development with a focus in Global Development, Political Ecology, Urban Environments and Communication. When he isn’t busy, Eric is swimming in rivers, dancing or reading a good book.

 

Maddy Baltor
(She/hers) Media Coordinator
Maddy has been on staff since November, 2021. She obtained her BA in American Studies and Music from Oberlin College. She has experience working as an audio engineer, humane educator, nanny, and more, and is passionate about climate justice, mental health, and the arts. Maddy is proud to work for an organization that advocates for a more just and sustainable world through an accessible lens. Outside of d@w, she enjoys playing music with her friends, walking through the park, and petting her dog.

Richard D. Wolff, Board Member
Rick is the founder of d@w and host of the d@w show Economic Update. He is Professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he taught economics from 1973 to 2008. Earlier he taught economics at Yale University and at the City College of the City University of New York. Wolff was also a regular lecturer at the Brecht Forum in New York City. He is currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs of the New School University in New York City.


Ben August, Board Member
Ben has been on the board of d@w since 2018 and has been a small business entrepreneur and advisor for over 30 years. He retired from his Human Resources firm in 2015 to spend time working independently and for causes that he cares about.
